My name is Michael Chandler. My wife, Sherry, and I operate Greyhound Rescue & Adoption - Utah Chapter in North Ogden, Utah. We are a division of Greyhound Rescue & Adoption of Kentucky, Inc., a nonprofit corporation, dedicated to finding responsible homes for Greyhounds who are no longer used or needed by the racing industry. The rescue is supported solely by volunteers and donations.
We are in dire need of a vehicle, a van model, to transport Greyhounds. At present we use our personal vehicles, none of which are big enough for more than three Greyhounds. The individuals who volunteer for "dog runs" absorb all fuel costs. Because of this it is more cost effective to bring back more than five dogs.
We travel out of state (Colorado, Nevada, Arizona and Oklahoma) to pick up the Greyhounds from farms and vets; transport them back to our home; and then ready them for transport once again to their forever homes.
Currently, we have adopters as far north as Idaho Falls, Idaho and as far south as Price, Utah. We have a Meet 'n Greet at the PetCo in Riverdale, Utah and the PetSmart in Layton, Utah once a month. The Rescue tries to go to as many events as possible to introduce Greyhounds to the populace.
We have participated in the July 4th Cherry Days parade in North Ogden for the past four years and are planning more events in the future.
